Plan out a solution for playing in the dark that works for your instrument. Also, practice playing your songs while looking at your instrument as little as possible. This is another great way to prepare for unexpected lighting problems on stage.

  • An artist will typically open with a few more with a more well known songs and encore with their best known song. Shows generally run around 30-45 minutes for an opening band slot to 60-90 minutes for a headliner. Other shows can run 2+ hours with multiple sets.
  • For the bands I already like, I use Songkick, which has an app that goes through your iTunes library and makes a custom concert calendar for you based on which of the artists in your library are playing near you. It's pretty awesome, though knowing when all of my favorite bands are coming to town has been a pretty significant drain on my bank account. Really great site, though.
